Nine Princes in Amber
My Review
This is old school fantasy. I didn't like that the magic was incomprehensible and that a key moment was sort of deus ex machina, but in the end I liked the book. In large measure it's because it ended well and I'm curious about book 2. I also liked the quantity of cigarettes the protagonist smoked.

He begins his adventure by visiting his sister and we follow him through the story as he slowly regains his lost memory and real purpose as a member of a royal family of Amber.
